This work was motivated by a bullying experiences that ultimately led the Helm family to home school their three children.  They put forth efforts to bring awareness and seek resolution from the school administration in regards to the extreme bullying their child was experiencing.  The indifferent posture and middling outcomes from the school administration ultimately led the Helm family to remove their children from an unhealthy toxic environment and resorted to home schooling.

Thereafter, they made a conscious effort to nurture their children, rebuild their self-esteem, restore confidence and restore justice.  They recognized that it was very important to substantiate their children and communicate openly about the dynamics of their experiences and to reassure their support and safety.  By removing their children from the bullying environment and their strategic approach, the Helm family was able to see drastic improvement in their children’s self-esteem and self-worth which positively impacted their perceptions in various aspects of their lives.

The Helm family’s approach in helping their children cope with their bullying experience was very effective.  They realized that sharing this strategy can provide assistance and support to others who are going through a similar experience.  Thus, they used their first-hand experience of successfully rebuilding their children's self-worth and an online bullying prevention survey conducted in 2015 by Robert Helm using SurveyMonkey.com, to effectively present the information in this guide.

Since 2013 the Helm family has become strong advocates for sustainable strategies and programs to prevent bullying and for building stronger families and communities.  Mr. Helm has served as a member of the Committee for Bullying Prevention for the City of Lansing, Michigan and his oldest daughter Miss Nkiyasi Helm is an author and a Youth Bullying Prevention Advocate.  Both are motivational speakers with a passion and a strong commitment to help others productively address and understand the detrimental consequences of bullying behavior.
